In 1960, Dino Gavina and Ceasare Cassina founded Flos in Merano, Italy. Working with internationally renowned designers since the company was founded has reinforced Flos status as a symbolically appealing, lighting design brand and manufacturer. Flos provide elegant lighting for a range of applications, from small desk lamps to elaborate pendant ceiling lights. The fundamentals of Flos designs combine art and design with natural shapes which complement the forward thinking and sustainable nature in which the company is run today. They are one of the few companies to take sustainable action by partnering with investors of a new, biodegradable resin, used in the production of lamps designed to disappear in time when no longer in use as part of their architectural designs. Flos ethos maintains that there will always be new types of lighting. The research, development and production of new designs are carried out with a 'groundbreaking' attitude while maintaining the cultural underpinnings upon which Flos was founded.
